Shared Commitment: Support Religious Moderation in West Kalimantan

Inidata.id - The Indonesian Mosque Youth Communication Agency (BKPRMI) West Kalimantan held a panel discussion of inter-ethnic and religious moderation on Saturday (23/7/2022) at the Mahkota Hotel, Pontianak.

From the results of the discussion on religious moderation, youths across religions and ethnicities sparked a joint commitment to support religious moderation in order to increase tolerance and harmony between religious and ethnic communities.

The panel discussion, which was attended by 200 participants, carried the theme: The Role of Youth in Promoting Religious Moderation across Religions and Ethnicities in West Kalimantan. Present as resource persons Hermansyah (Lecturer of IAIN Pontianak), Turiman Faturahman (Lecturer of the Faculty of Law UNTAN) and Firdaus Zar'in (Ketum BKPRMI) West Kalimantan.

The three resource persons provided enlightenment to youth of all religions and ethnicities for a moderate spirit of faith, upholding the values ​​of tolerance and harmony in West Kalimantan.

Through this activity, the three resource persons agreed that the youth of interfaith and ethnicity in West Kalimantan could promote and implement the values ​​of religious moderation in their environment. At the same time as a concrete effort or step to prevent radicalism that has penetrated among young people.

According to Turiman Fathurrahman, youth holds the development of the relay going forward. For this reason, the youth of West Kalimantan must become an icon to implement religious moderation in Indonesia.

“However, there are two important historical facts in West Kalimantan. First, West Kalimantan has a multi-ethnic society, and secondly, the designer of the national emblem comes from West Kalimantan. Youth must play the role of bhineka Tunggal Ika, they must become icons throughout Indonesia," said Turiman Fathurrahman.

As for the concept of religious moderation itself, Turiman continued, it is actually already final in the notion of nationality, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. There are still many who misinterpret Bhineka Tunggal Ika itself.
