Inidata.id - The Governor of West Kalimantan, Sutarmidji revealed that West Kalimantan Province has great potential to succeed the agenda of Indonesia's Forest and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030.
Based on the Decree of the Minister of Forestry Number 733 of 2014, West Kalimantan Province has a forest area of 8,389,600 hectares or about 57.14 percent of the total area of West Kalimantan.
This province also has a peat area of 2,793,331 hectares based on the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 130 of 2017. The peat area is divided into an indicative peat cultivation function and an indicative peat protection function in 699 villages.

In addition, West Kalimantan Province also has a mangrove area of 161,557.19 hectares based on the National Mangrove Map spread over Bengkayang Regency, North Kayong Regency, Ketapang Regency, Kubu Raya Regency, Mempawah Regency, Sambas Regency and Singkawang City.
The potential of this extraordinary natural resource should be for the Province of West Kalimantan to maintain its natural tropical rain forest which has various important roles.
"Therefore, we strive optimally through the realization of sustainable and equitable environmental management and forestry development while at the same time improving the welfare of the community," said Governor Sutarmidji.
Responding to the great potential proposed by Sutarmadji, Ruandha also acknowledged the potential of mangrove forests. According to him, mangrove forests have 4-5 times greater ability to absorb carbon than mineral forests.
