Inidata.id - On July 23 every year, Indonesia commemorates National Children's Day (HAN), this momentum is not only a celebration of children's rights, but also the right time for reflection and evaluation of the achievements and challenges of efforts to fulfill children's rights in Indonesia.

The theme of National Children's Day 2022: Protected Children, Advanced Indonesia also illustrates the importance of post-pandemic recovery efforts and building children's resilience.

In line with the theme of HAN 2022, Save the Children Indonesia encourages the importance of fulfilling children's rights which focuses on building resilience or resilience of children and families, especially those who are most affected by the bad situation of the climate crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic.

This step was carried out strategically by holding a Week for Children which was held on 22–28 July 2022. This series of events aimed to voice the adaptation and mitigation measures that have been carried out by Save the Children Indonesia together with various partners, children, and young people, in building resilience of children, especially those most affected by the climate crisis.

“The climate crisis is also a crisis on children's rights. Children bear the brunt of the impacts of the climate crisis. For this reason, it is important that efforts to fulfill children's rights also target building resilience starting from increasing awareness about climate crisis adaptation actions, supporting the family economy, ensuring basic health services for children are fulfilled, receiving social protection, and children's education rights," said Troy Pantouw / Chief. of Advocacy, Campaign, Communication & Media today.

The climate crisis affects children's health and well-being in many ways. In the health sector, data from the Ministry of Health on Data & Information on the Impact of Climate Change in the Health Sector 2021 explains that diseases related to climate change include diarrhea, pneumonia, acute respiratory infections, as well as several nutritional problems such as stunting and underweight.

The ability of children and families to adapt to the impacts of the climate crisis is also limited, one of the reasons is the knowledge and lack of information and assistance from various parties. For this reason, it is important to prioritize increasing the adaptive capacity of children and families and meeting the most important needs of the most affected families.

"We hope that the government can open a dialogue room with children so that climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts can produce child-friendly climate justice. Children need to be involved in discussion rooms and involved in decision making in order to realize child-friendly and child-friendly policies,” said Kahfi / 17 Tahun / Child Campaigner – Save the Children Indonesia.
